I followed my colleagues to Queensbay to have lunch last Friday. For those who is working normal shift, they entitle for 2 hours lunch on Friday but not for me. I only have 1 hour since I work shift.

I reached there at 12.40pm. My friends already reached 1 hour ago. They helped me to order the food in advance. When I reached with another colleague, they have finished their food. For our food, they asked the waiter to re-heat it. They are so nice!

Within a minute, my food came. Ta Da……..

The quarter chicken looks so small to me. Do you think the same too?

Menu.

I managed to go back to the office within 1 hour. Thanks to Alicia, who fetched me from the office and back to the office on time. 😉

During the festival (Chinese New Year) or praying time (Cheng Beng, Month of July), there is one dish that my mum will cook, Bang Kwang Char. Some call it Jiu Hu Char.

It’s very simple actually. First, you need to prepare all the ingredients: carrot, bang kwang, mushroom and jiu hu (cutter fish).

After that, start with putting the mushroom into the wok, followed by carrot. The last ingredient will be the bang kwang.

Use the cover and cover the wok for few minutes.

Ta Da…… Here’s the delicious Bang Kwang Char.

Genting Chee Cheong Fun is the best Chee Cheong Fun in the whole Penang island. I like it so much! the sauce is very unique, especially the chili sauce.

If I passed Genting before having my lunch, for sure I will go there and buy it. Normally I will buy it and eat at home.

This is the Chee Cheong Fun stall. Nowadays, the boss is letting the Indonesia maid to help on handling the business. They are fluent in Hokkien!

I want to take the photo when the seller chop the Chee Cheong Fun. But I was too slow. I also scared the seller will scold me for taking the photos. I only managed to take the look of the stall.

This is the Chee Cheong Fun that I bought back home. I asked for more chili. This time, it was too spicy. I think next time I need to think over before asking for more chili.

Oh my, I want to have it again and again!!! SLURP~~~

Do you know the name? Is it called Sponge Cake? I only knew it in Hokkien, we called it Kei Nui Kor. In Mandarin, it should be 鸡蛋糕. If direct translate from Mandarin to English, it will be Egg Cake.

I love it a lot. Sometimes, I will buy it from the bakery stall. Last time, the price will be RM2 for a packet with 6 pieces inside. Now, I have no idea on the price. For sure, it will not be RM2 anymore.

So, what is the name in English? Anyone?

I went to have lunch in Old Town Kopitiam with my ex-colleagues. We went to the newly open branch, near Sunshine Square.

To my surprise, Old Town Kopitiam has more food in the menu now. I have no idea on what to order. My friend said Curry Mee is nice. I ordered that without thinking any longer. For drinks, as usual, I ordered the Xi Mut Nai Cha (Milk Tea??). It’s recommended!

The Curry Mee was nice. You can have a try if you never eat it in Old Town Kopitiam. If you don’t want to have the noodle, you can always asked for the mee hoon, like what my friend did.

I only managed to take the photo of the Curry Mee. I will blog about it again when I go next time. By the way, Piggy is having the lunch with me. She is shy to take the photos of her Dry Curry Mee. Maybe next time both of us can go together just to take photos. Hahaha.

I got this Si Chuan Flavor Hot Pot Seasoning from my Cheng Du colleague few months back when they came to Penang. I never cook it until last Thursday.

I went to the market to get the fish ball and other ingredients that I like. Since it’s only me and my mum, I cook it by using the normal wok. (Is it call wok? I don’t know how to say “bok keng” in English. Anyone?)

These are the ingredients I have.

Not forget this one as well. In Chinese, we call it “Jing Zheng Gu”. Who knows in English?

It’s boiling!!

Oh man….. It was so damn hot!!! Although it was only medium hot, it was quite hot to me. For those who cannot eat spicy, I don’t think you can touch this one. I only use half a packet of the seasoning. I still have another half packet.

Overall, the seasoning was awesome! I am going to ask my friend to get it for me. She is going to Cheng Du for business trip in few weeks time.

I went to the market near to my apartment on June 25. This was the first time I went there. The market was so small, if compare to the one I always go, Taman Jubilee Market.

I went there quite late. I want to have Wan Tan Mee for my breakfast but it was already sold out. I have no choice but to order the Lor Mee.

I seldom have Lor Mee. Normally I will have Hokkien Mee. But this stall is only selling Lor Mee. The Lor Mee was just a normal one. Nothing special.

The other day when I went to Tesco, I saw the frozen glutinous rice ball. I never tried the frozen one. Without any hesitation, I bought it. I bought the one with the black sesame.

It’s very easy to cook it. First, boil the water.

Put the glutinous rice balls into the hot water.

After a few minutes, the glutinous rice balls will float on the water. It means the rice balls are ready to be eaten.

Before that, add in some sugar. I add in the brown sugar.

Let me try the taste.

Yummy…….. The glutinous rice balls are good. I like the black sesame. You want to have a try?

If you think of eating the rice balls as well, go buy it in the shopping mall. You no need to waste time and energy to make it your own. It is so easy and convenient!

So many people are cooking this dish since Ohbin published it, including Sock Peng, Jiin Ling and Sharon. I think of having it a try since it seems so easy. In fact, it is easy!

The ingredients include:

1 1/2 pork rib
4 teaspoon of soya sauce
3 teaspoon of sugar
2 teaspoon of rice vinegar
1 teaspoon of gourmet cooking shao hsing hua tiao chiew

This is how the name 4321 comes from.

I asked my mum to buy the pork rib for me. I don’t have the rice vinegar and gourmet cooking shao hsing hua tiao chiew. So I went Tesco to get it this morning.

Gourmet Cooking Shao Hsing Hua Tiao Chiew.

Rice Vinegar.

These are the Soya Sauce, Rice Vinegar and Hua Tiao Chiew that I used.

Pork Rib.

Mix Sauce. I put them in a bowl first.

First, my mum helped me to boil the water and pour it over the pork rib, in order to take out the so call “blood water” (Need to use your hand to squeeze the pork rib). We always do that, if not, sometimes the pork will have smell.

Next, pour the mix sauce into the pan, without adding any oil or water.

Put all the pork rib into the pan and cook it. It needs time for the pork rib to be cooked. Please be patient.

It’s almost done. You can see the mix sauce has become thicker.

Few minutes later, Tang Tang Tang Tang…… Pork Rib 4321 is done!!!

Nice looking?

I tested and it was a bit salty. I think I need to have less soya sauce next time. You can adjust the quantity of the sauce based on your personal reference. I don’t like it to be too sweet so I just add in 2 1/2 teaspoon of sugar instead of 3.

Overall, they are yummy! Of course yummy…… I’m the one who cook it!!! Wakakaka 🙂

One of the reason we went to Tuaran is to have the Tuaran Mee.

I cannot find the coffee shop that I used to eat few years back. We have no choice but to ask the people there. To my surprise, the shop owner who we asked was talking to me in Hokkien. He told us the famous coffee shop for Tuaran Mee is called Yapp Siang Restaurant and it’s only start business at 9.30am.

Luckily, the time was already 9.30am. We quickly walked towards the coffee shop since 3 of us were very hungry. We reached the coffee shop after few minutes walk.

The menu on the wall.

I ordered ice coffee for drinks.

This is the famous Tuaran Mee. Look nice? It was a bit simple, right? But, it was yummy. Yum Yum!!

For second day dinner, I went to the Fatt Kee Coffee Shop. It is located opposite Wisma Merdeka and below Ang’s Hotel. This coffee shop is recommended by Mei Wah.

The environment was OK. The time I went is still early, not that many people. But the lady boss was a bit acting. So “chuin”!!! I should have taken her photo and post it here.

Inside the Kitchen.

Pai Kut Ong (Pork Rib King).

Nice, so let you see one more time, closer view.

Fried Egg with Honey Roasted Pork (Char Siew).

Fried Sotong.

I like! Yummy!!!

Belacan Sambal with Sabah Vegetables. This is what the lady boss told us.

Sabah Vegetables. Have you eaten before? Not bad.

Suan La Tang (Sour Spicy Soup).

Happy Family! Haha, all the dishes together.

Overall, the food was good. The price was cheap too! Just that the attitude of the lady boss was not that good. My friend said he will not go again due to this.
